Located on the edge of the Khao Kheow–Khao Chom Puo Wildlife Sanctuary near Sriracha, Khao Kheow Open Zoo has welcomed visitors since 1978. It's Thailand's first zoo built on the open-concept model, giving animals spacious, naturalistic habitats instead of cages, and it remains a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) for its conservation and research work.
The zoo spans roughly 2,000 acres, divided into zones for animal habitats, public recreation, and dedicated conservation and breeding areas. Whether you're an animal lover, a family with young kids, or a photographer chasing the perfect giraffe-feeding shot, Khao Kheow delivers a full day of wildlife exploration.
After check-in, most visitors start at the African Savanna, home to zebras, rhinos, giraffes, and ostriches roaming across open grassland. From there, the Cats Complex houses lions, tigers, and other big cats in spacious enclosures, followed by a walk through the colorful bird aviary and a ride through the one-acre deer park, where tame deer approach for hand-feeding.
Feed bags for giraffes, deer, and elephants are sold at stations throughout the zoo for 20–40 THB. The zoo can be explored on foot, via the open-air tram that loops the full property, or by rental golf cart for a faster self-guided pace. Most visitors spend 3–5 hours to see the major zones and catch at least one scheduled show.
