Kata Beach: A Family-Friendly Beach for Swimming & Surfing
Separated from its larger neighbor by a rocky headland, Kata Noi ("Little Kata" in Thai) is a smaller, quieter version of Kata Beach — the same clear water and soft sand, with noticeably fewer people and a more secluded feel.
Kata Noi sits just south of Kata Beach, reached by a short drive over the headland or a walk along the coastal path connecting the two. Its smaller size and slightly more isolated position have kept it from developing the same density of restaurants and shops found at Kata, so the beach retains a quieter, more low-key character. A handful of upscale resorts sit along the hillside overlooking the bay, but the beach itself remains relatively open and uncluttered compared to its larger neighbor.
The water at Kata Noi is generally calm and clear for much of the year, making it well suited to swimming, and the compact bay shape provides some natural shelter from stronger currents. Like Kata, it experiences seasonal surf swells during the monsoon months, though conditions are generally considered a bit gentler here than at Kata itself, making it a reasonable option for less experienced surfers as well.
