Laem Singh Beach: A Hidden Beach Accessible by Boat or Trail
Tucked into a steep-sided bay between Kamala and Surin beaches, Laem Singh is one of Phuket's most photogenic hidden coves — roughly 300 meters of soft golden sand framed by giant granite boulders and swaying palm trees, visible from a popular roadside viewpoint but reachable only on foot or by boat.
Laem Singh's story has shifted over the years. In the mid-2000s, it was a well-developed beach with rows of sunbeds, several restaurants, and a paved staircase leading down from the coastal road. That changed in April 2017, when a property dispute closed the staircase access, and the land was later sold to a hotel group — cutting the beach off from direct road access. Today, visitors reach Laem Singh either by a roughly 15–20 minute walk over rocks from the southern end of Surin Beach, or by hiring a short boat ride, both of which keep the crowds naturally lower than in the beach's earlier, more commercialized era.
The reward for the effort is a genuinely beautiful, largely undeveloped cove: clear, calm water most of the year, good bodyboarding conditions at the northern end, and excellent swimming and snorkeling around the rocky headland separating Laem Singh from Kamala Bay to the south. The Laem Singh Viewpoint, right beside the coastal road between Kamala and Surin, offers a sheltered spot to admire the bay from above before or after making the trip down.
