Tri Trang Beach: A Quiet Escape Just South of Patong

6 activitiesPhuket, Thailand

Also known as Emerald Beach for its vivid green-tinted water, Tri Trang Beach sits just a few kilometers south of bustling Patong — a roughly 700-meter stretch of sand in a sheltered bay that feels like a completely different world despite being only a short drive or bike ride away.

Tri Trang's sheltered position, protected by a headland, keeps larger waves out of the bay for most of the year, and its gentle entry into the water makes it comfortable for families and beginner swimmers. The beach is divided into two distinct sections, with beach width varying between roughly 30 and 50 meters depending on the tide. Comfortable swimming is generally best at high tide, since rocks and shell fragments near the shore can be exposed at low tide along parts of the beach.

The beach's main development is the luxury Rosewood Phuket resort, which opened in 2017 and now anchors much of the shoreline, alongside a couple of more moderately priced nearby hotels. Despite the presence of a high-profile luxury resort, Tri Trang has retained a distinctly low-key, uncrowded character — helped by its position at the end of a road that sees far less traffic than the main routes into Patong. Views from the beach look back across the bay toward Patong and Kalim, particularly striking at sunset.
